‘Sparrow Rest’ is a study of this common garden visitor. Although its feathers are not colourful like many birds, the different brown tones, black and white feathers, make it a delightful character to paint. In oils on a thick edged rectangular canvas, the complex background of an old window frame with parts of chipped paint and modern turquoise backdrop makes it an upbeat, happy painting. The edges of the canvas are painted in white.
