This is a small study of a New Zealand Rock Wren fledgling, oil on canvas and part of the Little Bird series. The painting was short-listed for the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021. Rock Wrens are sometimes called South Island Wren of New Zealand of Australasia , this tiny bird is set against complementary colours of nature on a wooden door backdrop. The number of these birds are declining due to predatory mammals introduced into their habitat so as a study it is important to remember these tiny lucky birds and their value.
